Everything you need to know about the new 1% tax on payments

The 2025 Finance Act saw a 1% tax introduced on deposits and withdrawals related to gambling and entertainment. Orange have implemented this, with MTN expected to follow.

How is this tax applied?

These tax deductions are applied automatically by your telco. When depositing, if you add 100 FCFA to your betPawa account, 101 FCFA will be deducted from your MoMo balance.

Remember to factor the 1% tax into your chosen deposit amount to guarantee you have sufficient funds and prevent a failed payment.

Withdrawals work similarly. If you were to withdraw 100 FCFA from betPawa, 99 FCFA would be added to your MoMo balance.
